Our New Mission

To inspire creativity, innovative thinking, and collaborative problem-solving while nurturing children, families, communities, and the environment.

The Sharing Tree was established in 2009 by Tallahassee artist and entrepreneur Carly Sinnadurai as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. The original mission of The Sharing Tree was to collect and redistribute reusable materials to educators, artists and the broader learning community, while simultaneously educating the community in the art of creative reuse. Over the years, The Sharing Tree provided thousands of teachers, students, artists, businesses and families with affordable crafting and art materials, donated over a million dollars in classroom materials annually to local educators and non profits, and diverted over eight hundred tons of reusable materials from our local landfill.

In recent years, The Sharing Tree has evolved and grown to include an increasing amount of educational opportunities for children and adults that focus on nurturing creative confidence, while reinforcing healthy values and practices that best sustain people and our planet. Our passion for education has motivated us to reevaluate our mission.

A New Mission - Preparing Future Innovators

In an era of complex problems and accelerating change, we (Carly and the board of directors) have asked an important question… How might we prepare future generations to become creative problem solvers and collaborative innovators, so that they might lead productive, fulfilled lives while contributing to the betterment of humanity? The solution we arrived at is to provide activities, experiences, and training that build creative confidence. IDEO founder and Stanford d.school founder David Kelley defines creative confidence as having the freedom and courage to fail/take creative risks and the knowledge that all of the ideas you create have value. Kids with strong creative confidence will become our future leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and intrapreneurs.

Our New Mission

To inspire creativity, innovative thinking, and collaborative problem-solving while nurturing children, families, communities, and the environment.

Equipped with an experienced, passionate, and talented Director, supported by a diverse Board of Directors with extensive knowledge and skills, backed by a community of hundreds of supporters, operating in a newly renovated facility, The Sharing Tree is excited to engage children, families, and our community in worthwhile activities that will expand capabilities, strengthen connections, and propel Tallahassee forward on its path towards becoming a national center for creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
